U.S.  and Canadian ag tractor monthly unit sales in June 2022 fell, while harvester sales grew in both countries, according to the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)

U.S. total farm tractor sales fell 8.2 percent for the month of June compared to 2021, while U.S. self-propelled combine sales for the month grew 25.3 percent to 629 units sold.

The 100+ horsepower 2WD tractor segment was the only one in the black for the fourth month in a row, up 9.6 percent, indicating continued demand in row-crop agriculture.

Mid-range tractors between 40 and 100 horsepower fell 7.2 percent, and the sub-40hp segment were down 10.2 percent. 4WD tractors finished the month down only 3 percent.

“We’re glad to see the growth in combine harvesters this month, despite ongoing supply chain challenges holding ag tractors back

Total farm tractor sales are down 13.4 percent while combine harvester unit sales improved, now down only 5.5 percent on the year.

In Canada, overall unit sales in tractors were down 5 percent, despite 2WD units in the 40-100hp and 4WD tractors growing 1.8 percent and 46.4 percent, respectively. Total 2WD unit sales were down 5.9 percent, led by 100+hp units fall of 11.1 percent. Combine harvester unit sales grew in Canada, up 35.1 percent to 154 units sold. Year-to-date farm tractor unit sales are down 7.9 percent in Canada, while harvesters are down 15.5 percent, cutting their loss nearly in half.

“We’re glad to see the growth in combine harvesters this month,” said Curt Blades, senior vice president, industry sectors & product leadership at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. “That helped put both countries at or above their 5-year average for the month of June in overall unit sales, despite ongoing supply chain challenges holding ag tractors back.”
