National Sheep Network Names New Chair

Ryan Greir, a sheep producer from Alberta, has been named as the chair for the National Sheep Network (NSN). Greir is currently the vice-chair of Alberta Lamb Producers, and farms just east of Strathmore with his wife Janna and young son

The NSN represents Canada’s top three lamb producing provinces —Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec — on national issues. The three provinces are home to 75 per cent of Canada’s sheep production, over 80 per cent of lamb processing, and more than 5,400 sheep farmers.

The organization also elected Pierre Lessard, from Quebec, to serve as vice chair. Lessard is currently the president of Les Eleveurs d’Ovins du Quebec and farms near Tingwick.

The organization has finalized a memorandum of understanding with a “clear mandate to provide an effective national voice for the business of sheep farming,” according to Greir, in a news release.

Rounding out the NSN executive are: Darlene Stein (Alberta), Marc Carere (Ontario), Heather Little (Ontario), and John Hemsted (Ontario).
