CPC Has Outlined Pork Producer’s Priorities for the 2019 Election
According to the Canadian Pork Council, the federal government has a key role to play in the success of a thriving pork industry in Canada, and that all begins with setting priorities for the fall election campaign

The CPC outlined the four African Swine Fever (ASF) priorities as Prevent, Prepare, Respond, and Recover. ASF has had a devastating impact on pork production the world over, with some countries industry all but decimated.
Canada has been vigilant in its efforts to stem the virus from infecting Canadian herds, yet producers are calling for Ottawa to establish a Canadian Pork Promotion Research Agency and Effective Business Risk Management Programming.

At the same time, with the markets adversely affected by unstable trade relations, CPC and its member producers are putting an emphasis on maintaining competitive access to overseas markets and to further develop trade with Asian regions specifically.
Currently, Canada is one of the highest grossing pork producing countries in the world, representing over $ 4 billion worth of domestic and foreign exports annually. At home, the pork industry creates both thousands of farm and indirect jobs across the country, and sets the benchmark for sustainability and quality the world over.
The 2019 Federal Election is set to kick off on or before October 21.
