Trade mission highlights Canadian pork in Japanese market

A recent trade mission this September to Japan took place, celebrating Canada becoming Japan’s top pork supplier for the first time in 40 years

The delegation made up of 19 members of the Canadian pork industry headed for Osaka’s Expo 2025 and Tokyo to host key trade initiative events and spear head media conferences aimed to solid the mutually respectful and successful trading relationship between the two countries.

The mission was aimed to deepen the trade relationship and showcase Canada’s high-quality production standards while reaffirming Canada’s premium position in the Japanese pork market.

“This market success is a direct result of Canadian pork’s rise to Japan’s top pork supplier status and reflects decades of trust between the two countries”

The delegation was kept busy on a tight schedule that included a key event at the Canadian Pavilion at Osaka’s 2025 expo. But it also underscored the decades-long trust between Canadian producers and Japanese retailers and consumers on the global stage that is fraught with trade uncertainty and punitive tariffs from Washington.

The mission highlighted the Canadian Pork Council and Canada Porks’ roles in global market achievements by touting producers and famers while forging regulatory changes with overseas foreign offices that continue to promote Canadian pork globally.

The Asia-Pacific region is a top priority market for Canada and as a result of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP), has been instrumental in the trade benefits for Canadian pork exports.

The trade mission’s presentation at the Canadian pavilion at Expo 2025 included cutting demos and product sampling and an exclusive media conference at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.

This market success is a direct result of Canadian pork’s rise to Japan’s top pork supplier status and reflects decades of trust between the two countries when it comes to meat and agriculture.
