Young women and men who are passionate about the agriculture and agri-food sector have a new opportunity to provide advice on issues that matter to them — sustainable agriculture, market diversification and innovation, the digital shift, intergenerational transfers, mental health and more

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s new Canadian Agricultural Youth Council needs young Canadians from across the sector to help shape the future of the agriculture and agri-food industry.

The council will raise emerging issues, discuss challenges and opportunities, share information and best practices, and advise AAFC on the strengths and weaknesses of policies and programs affecting the agriculture and agri-food sector.

“Agriculture doesn’t just mean on-farm activities”

Agriculture doesn’t just mean on-farm activities. It also includes processing and value-added transformation of agriculture and food products. AAFC is looking for broad representation from across the supply chain — including agriculture students, agri-food processors, other agri-business owners and food scientists.

The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, launched the application process for the new council, the first of its kind in Canada, on January 24.

Women and men aged 18 to 30 who work in the agriculture and agri-food value chain and would like to shape the future of the sector can visit AAFC’s Canadian Agricultural Youth Council page and complete an online application.

The deadline to apply is February 14, 2020.
