truLOCAL to Launch 100% Blue Bin Approved Packaging
Canadian meat box service among first in online food subscription category to launch 100% blue bin approved packaging now available in three provinces
TruLOCAL.ca, a Canadian subscription service that delivers small-farmed, pasture-raised, antibiotic-free, locally produced meats directly to consumers’ doors, announces the launch of 100 per cent recyclable packaging at a time when many in the food subscription category are struggling to do the same.
“We put a priority on listening to our customers and being able to offer them 100 per cent recyclable packaging is something we’re proud to do that few others can even come close to doing,” said Marc Lafleur, co-founder and CEO, truLOCAL. “Being responsive to our customers is driving our business forward. There’s a huge runway for the subscription box category in Canada. We know this because there has been exponential growth of the meal-kit services and the broader subscription market category has doubled over the past five years in the U.S.”

Environmental impact
truLOCAL’s entire shipment box will now be accepted in recycle bins in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. This news builds on the company’s sustainable business model of exclusively offering local meat that is produced on small farms with many using regenerative agriculture.
Reducing the footprint with local partnerships
While time-strapped Canadians could drive to local farms for quality meats, or shop at a big box grocer, truLOCAL’s 300 per cent increase in sales in the last year reveals consumers are looking for a better alternative. Lafleur attributes success to a growing consumer desire to eat better quality food, and an increased awareness of the inhumane treatment of animals and environmental impact in the production of meat.
A meat eaters dream – not just chicken and beef
truLOCAL offers a range of grass fed, organic, pasture raised, non-GMO and antibiotic free meats. With many Canadians interested adopting special eating plans like Keto or Carnivore diets, the company breaks up the monotony of chicken or beef offering a comprehensive selection of 90 different products in Ontario alone, including turkey, lamb and harder-to-find meats like buffalo, bison, boar, and selections of fish.
LOCAL partnerships
truLOCAL partners with many small, family-owned, generational farms in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia to bring its customers meats from their own region. truLOCAL subscription boxes are available across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia and start as low as $125 for a customizable box with 18 pieces. To see its roster of suppliers in each region click here.
