CMC released their statement, congratulating the Government of Canada for its participation and signing of the Comprehensive Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)

The CMC said in their statement, “the CPTPP will bolster the meat industries exports while supporting jobs and growth in Canada.”

“Canadian policy-makers must now focus on introducing and passing implementation legislation”

Along with other other industry stakeholders and organizations, the CMC was on the ground to witness the signing of the CPTPP deal.

“CMC is confident that this deal has the potential to increase beef and pork sales by at least $1 billion, creating the potential to support an over 11,000 new jobs here in Canada.” CMC’s President & CEO, Chris White stated.

Canadian Cattlemen’s Association’s Director of Government and International Relations (Ottawa), John Masswohl tweeted prior to the signing of the CPTPP deal by the eleven Pacific Rim countries, “This is excellent! I will be there with CAFTA_ACCA partners to witness history. A great deal for Canada!”

The CMC stated that with the signature of this historic trade deal, Canadian policy-makers must now focus on introducing and passing implementation legislation so Canadian businesses and job creators can start benefiting from the deal. Without swift implementation, Canada risks to lose the competitive advantage in these markets, to other exporting countries.
