FCC Contributes $1.5 Million to 78 Community Projects Across Canada

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is giving $1.5 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to 78 community groups across Canada to support rural capital projects. In honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the fund was increased from $1 million

“The FCC AgriSpirit Fund is an investment in rural Canada,” said Sophie Perreault, FCC executive vice-president and chief operating officer. “It’s about partnering with individuals and groups who are committing their time and energy for the purpose of bettering their communities.”

The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects, such as hospitals and medical centres, fire and rescue equipment, playgrounds, food banks, libraries, arenas, swimming pools, recreation areas, and community centres.

Nationally, 1,214 applications were received this year which demonstrates how invested rural Canadians are in their communities. Over the past 14 years, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund has supported almost 1,100 projects, an investment of more than $12 million.

The next application period opens in spring 2018. Registered charities and non-profit organizations interested in funding can visit www.fccagrispiritfund.ca for eligibility requirements and to apply online.

In Manitoba, the following projects are receiving funding:

Manitoba Beef & Forage Initiatives

$25,000 to build a modern classroom style learning centre on a research, demonstration and outreach farm for students, farmers, and the general public to use

Norfolk Treherne Volunteer Fire Department

$25,000 to upgrade existing fire and rescue truck and equipment

Teulon-Rockwood Recreation Commission

$20,000 to renovate the community hall

Richer Community Club

$20,000 to construct permanent rodeo arena

J.A. Cuddy Parent Advisory Council and the Sanford Community Green Space Committee

$15,000 to build a multi-use, fully accessible green space for recreation and education

Grandview & District Recreation Commission

$15,000 to build an accessible multi-use facility which is used in the hub of the recreation grounds and campground

Rural municipality of Pipestone

$10,000 to build a spray park for the community
