AHEM announces Webinar 3 of the Emergency Management Workshop Series is open for registration

The Canadian livestock industry is taking steps to better prepare for a serious animal disease outbreak. As a leader in this process, the Animal Health Emergency Management (AHEM) project is teaming up with industry groups across Canada to deliver emergency response workshops and resources to improve industry’s emergency readiness

A serious animal disease outbreak can occur at any time so it’s important for livestock producers to be prepared. Taking steps to improve your awareness of emergency management, including understanding where you fit in a response, can better position your operation to react effectively to an emergency as it unfolds.

The 60-minute interactive virtual webinars will provide participants with opportunities to learn about emergency management and to ask key questions that will make all the difference when an emergency strikes. 

Webinar 1: Navigating the Unexpected – Emergency Management 101

In part one of this three-part series, livestock producers will be given a general overview of emergency management along with producer roles and responsibilities. The information is designed to boost preparedness with proactive steps and to provide insight into the knowledge and skills required during a serious animal disease outbreak.

Webinar 2: Resourced and Ready – Exploring Proactive Disease Management Tactics and Tools

Part two of this three-part webinar series explores concepts and support tools found in the AHEM resources. The hour-long interactive webinar incorporates producer specific content and resources and gives participants an opportunity to ask questions about animal health emergency management.

Webinar 3: Testing, Testing, 1-2-3 – Scenarios for producer Handbook application

While we cannot anticipate every circumstance that may take place during an emergency event, we can create scenarios to test our ability to respond. Understanding how to work together using the AHEM producer Handbook will improve emergency readiness by allowing participants to identify and address existing gaps.

In the final part of this three-part series participants will be introduced to AHEM’s producer-oriented simulation workshops, which give a practical understanding of how AHEM resources are used as guidance before, during and/or after a serious animal disease outbreak.

Participants will benefit from an opportunity to actively work through and fine tune their response as they explore numerous scenario-based exercises.
